Resist. Exist. Persist. — Do Your REPs Each Day to Mentally Thrive
Itwas one of those work weeks where I could tell everyone around me was burned out and ready for a break. I saw Slack messages saying, “Hey, I’m gonna head out early today, it’s been a long week.” And, “I’m totally spent guys, I need to take the rest of the afternoon off.” And my favorite: “I’m fried. Have a good weekend y’all.” I could tell that amidst our creative syncs, in the chaos of the pixels, between the lines of code, and in the exhaustive back-to-back meetings, we were losing track of ourselves.Back when I was a kid, I remember seeing my dad come home, sometimes weary, with that far-off look in his eyes. He worked in a high-pressure job as an electrical engineer, and the weight of it would often hang visibly on his shoulders.
One evening, while we were sitting on the porch, he shared his little method with me and I haven’t forgotten. A mantra he coined to navigate the craziness of his daily challenges, inspired by a connection he made to fitness. He described it as his mental compass, a reminder to stay grounded amidst the chaos of life. And, as I ventured into the world as a working adult, where every day is a balance of passion and pressure, I found myself leaning into his wisdom. I want to share this framework with you and help you understand how REPs can become the lifeline to your mental well-being in this world that never seems to slow down. You need to take care of your mental health. When you Resist, Exist, Persist, and do your mental REPs, healing will come. Here’s how you can apply this…
