This Is How I Recovered From Obsessive Branding Disorder (OBD)




First of all, let me tell you that Obsessive Branding Disorder is not a medical condition. This term is basically used to describe those individuals who become excessively obsessed with branded products. There was a time when I was suffering from this disorder. My room used to look like a shrine to my favorite brands. The walls of my room were covered with different brand logos. My cupboard was a treasure of designer clothes and accessories. I never left the home without my “Michael Kors” crossbody bag. I wasted thousands of dollars on this habit. I used to believe that consuming these products would elevate my status but I was wrong. Social media contributed too much to make me obsessed with brands. I am not an expressive kind of personality. Therefore I don’t showcase my own pictures with branded clothes and accessories. But I followed some influencers who regularly flaunt their designer products on Instagram and Youtube. I used to scroll excessively and loved to watch their videos and photos. This factor played a very significant role in making me suffer from OBD. I got inspired by their fan following. I used to think that people liked them due to their expensive lifestyle.I have been a stubborn kind of creature since childhood. My parents always provided me with everything I demanded. But after getting married and having kids, I had so many other expenses too. By that time, I started realizing that I spent a lot of money to buy clothes and then left them hanging in the cupboard. I started observing that I use a couple of my branded products daily. Rest are just for keeping. By the time, my credit cards started screaming at me. My bills were crying to be paid off.
