Downplay the Palestinian Struggle

3 Tactics the Media Uses to Downplay the Palestinian Struggle in the Eyes of the American People

Has this ever happened to you where you disagreed with a friend of a different race and his immediate response was, “You’re a racist!” ? That immediate feeling of confusion and frustration is the feeling of being gas-lit. And the media is an expert in gas-lighting. (It’s likely that’s where your ex learned it from.) Many people conflate the two but you can be anti-Zionist without being anti-Semitic. One is a political movement and one is a religion very similar to Islam. Anyone who says otherwise is peddling Zionist propaganda.Whenever a pro-Palestinian representative is interviewed, they’re always asked to condemn Hamas. But I have never seen pro-Israeli representatives asked to condemn the many war crimes Israel commits on a daily basis. We as citizens of the world need to recognize this tactic and its implications. At the very heart of such a discriminatory line of questioning is a misrepresentation of the conflict. The media will give you facts (sometimes). Just not all of the facts. There are two aspects to this tactic:You don’t need to be a genius to understand cause and effect. But you’d have to be pretty disingenuous to only focus on the effect. The media loves to showcase situations in a vacuum. The quote below is the result of such disingenuity. The media will have you believe that Palestine has the same resources as Israel by purposely ignoring power dynamics. Israel receives billions of dollars in economic, diplomatic, and military aid from the US and various countries in the EU when Palestine can barely get humanitarian aid for themselves.
